François Rousselet / John Lewis 'The Gifting Hour'
Francois Rousselet is easily one of the most creative forces in music videos and commercials today. His approach to filmmaking is a highly graphic one that blends intellect with wild imagination. With an eye for detail, colour and brash attitude, his stylish films cleverly play off an obsession with pop culture references. Always eye-opening, each piece is a chance at reinvention and boldly uncovers new territory, making him an artist that is impossible to pigeonhole.
Francois’ music video career began in 2007 with promos for French electro label Ed Banger Records with artists like Justice and Kavinsky, amongst others. He has since collaborated with some of the world’s top musical minds including Kanye West, Madonna, Depeche Mode, Jack White, Snoop Dog Liam Gallagher and the Rolling Stones. In 2022 his ground breaking stop motion “Cash In Cash Out” music video for Pharrell Williams featuring 21 Savage & Tyler the Creator dominated across the music video and animation categories taking home a prestigious black pencil at D&AD, two golds at Cannes, the Grand Prix and 2 golds at Ciclope, 2 Creative Circle golds, UKMVA’s Music Video of the Year and Best Music Video at AICP.
While Francois continues to craft wildly cutting-edge music videos, he also lends his creativity to the commercial world, and has worked with brands including Apple, Mercedes, Heineken, Nike, Diesel, Jean Paul Gaultier, BBC Radio, Playstation, Lancome. In 2020 he reunited with Snoop Dogg for Just Eat’s spot ‘Did Somebody Say’ through McCann which was included in the APA’s Top 20 of 2020 and picked up 2 Clio Awards and his recent German Road Safety short was awarded for Direction, Cinematography and Colour grading at Shots, Eurobest and London International Film Festival.
